Permanent Christmas Lights in Sandpoint, ID

Sandpoint gets the heaviest snow of anywhere we work, and the steep roof pitches to match. Both are reasons to put lighting up once, correctly, instead of twice a year in difficult conditions.

Snow load and steep pitches

Roofs around Sandpoint and up toward Schweitzer are pitched steeply because they have to shed a serious amount of snow. That makes seasonal lighting both harder to install and more likely to be destroyed by a sliding load partway through the season.

A permanent install accounts for that in the layout. The channel is positioned so that sliding snow passes over rather than catching it, and the fastening schedule is specified for the load and the exposure rather than for a mild climate.

Ice dams are the other local factor. Where a roof is prone to them, where the channel sits relative to the eave edge matters, and that is a design decision rather than something to work out on the ladder.

A long winter is a long season

Sandpoint’s dark season runs well past the holidays. A system that only earns its keep for six weeks is a poor deal here; one that gives you warm white light over the entry from October through April is a different calculation entirely.

The app scheduling matters more in this climate too, because nobody wants to be outside adjusting anything. On and off times, colour and brightness all change from indoors.

Cost in Sandpoint

Figure $2,800 to $3,800 for the first 100 feet of roofline. Steep pitches and difficult access raise the labour component, and larger homes here commonly land in the $5,000 to $10,000 range.

We quote after assessing the roof on site, because pitch and access are most of the variance on a Sandpoint property.
