When to Book Christmas Lights in the Inland Northwest
The limiting factor is not the calendar. It is how long the roofs stay safe to work on, and that window is shorter here than in most of the country.
The installing window, not the decorating season
Professional crews think in terms of when a roof can be worked safely, which is a different thing from when you want the lights switched on. Those two dates can sit six weeks apart.
Across the Spokane area and North Idaho, the comfortable window runs from early October into November. After that, crews are working around frost on shingles, ice in gutters and shorter daylight. The work still gets done, but it slows down and the scheduling gets tighter.
Why installing early does not mean lighting early
This is the part most homeowners do not realise. The strands go up while the weather is still cooperative, and a timer decides when they actually come on. You pick the date and the hours.
Nothing about an October install forces a lit house in October. Plenty of properties sit quietly wired for weeks before the owner flips the schedule to start the evening after Thanksgiving.

What waiting costs
Three things, in order of how often they bite. First, availability — December books out, and the last fortnight before Christmas is the hardest slot to get in the whole year.
Second, conditions. A crew on an icy pitch works more slowly and more cautiously, which is exactly as it should be, but it means a longer job.
Third, your own time. The weekend you set aside in December is the weekend most likely to be taken by something else, and a self-install postponed twice usually becomes a self-install abandoned.
Further north, earlier still
Properties around Sandpoint, Priest River and Newport sit far enough north that the weather closes in sooner than it does in the Spokane Valley. If you are up that way, think early October rather than late, and expect the takedown window in January to be narrower too.
The same applies to anything with a steep pitch or a north-facing roof that holds frost into the afternoon.
The other end of the season
Takedown deserves a thought at booking time. A full-service package schedules removal, transport and storage so the strands never occupy your garage, and so nobody is on a ladder in January trying to free a clip from an iced gutter.
Custom Christmas Lights coordinates a convenient takedown date and stores everything until the following season, which also means the design is already measured and cut when you book again.
A sensible rhythm
Design and quote in late summer or early autumn. Install in October or early November. Set the timer for whenever you want the season to start. Book the following year before you forget what you liked about this one.
Want a figure for your own property? Design and quoting are free, with no obligation.
